Home Theater Interior Sound proofing

Home theater interior sound proofing is needed in your home due to two main reasons. They are for preventing the sound from your home theater going out and not allowing the external noise inside. In the construction of your home the earlier soundproofing is planned the better. At the stage of construction it is better to install soundproofing solutions. Retrofitting is usually less effective and can be expensive. Specialized soundproofing glues, audio insulation, absorptive or diffusive wall materials, and decoupled framing will make your home a place of enjoyment. All the aspects of the room must be considered for properly home theater interior soundproofing. The types of restrictions existing for doorways and windows requirements should be particularly considered. Given below are the things to be considered for each aspect.

Acoustic Walls and Acoustical wall panels

Usually home theater interior soundproofing will mostly be applied to walls. The installation of audio insulation can be done in a wall for limiting airborne transmission, but for getting maximum effect, the best will be to use sound isolation chips in a decoupled wall. Without causing disturbance to the frame this will let it to vibrate. Any mechanical sound transmission is effectively prevented which is excellent for noises with low frequency like those from sub-woofers.

Acoustical ceiling tiles to absorb sound

It is difficult to decouple the ceiling from the framework, but here too this can be done. For the ceiling, the effectiveness of alternative methods of sound insulation is less. This particularly applies to multi-story buildings where the passage of sound is from the floor above through the ceiling.

Acoustical Flooring tiles and carpets

Similar to ceiling it can be difficult to decouple the floor, but floor coverings like carpet can easily soundproof it by diffusing sound. Further improvement can be done by using acoustic underlay for dampening noise.

Acoustical Doors

Usually in your home theater only one door will be there to go in and out, so keeping it sealed well is important. Fitting of special acoustic insulation strips to the edge of the door can be done for ensuring a complete seal, preventing the occurrence of any flanking noise. Installing a double door is another option. For prevention of the escaping of sound through doorways, an effective way is use double doors.

Acoustical Windows

While windows are not something wanted in a home theater, there is a technical requirement by law that they should be there in all rooms of new houses for ventilation purpose. Also, they should have a certain size – at least 10% of the floor space area. It is a great challenge to soundproof windows. For preventing sound through windows the best solution is glazing it doubly or even triply. If there is vacuum seal between the spaces of the glass panels then it is better since sound cannot enter through a vacuum. Also, superior thermal resistance is offered by this solution. This adds to the R-value of the room. Though windows pose a problem for home theater interior soundproofing, the above solution will overcome it.
