Fiberglass Isolation hangers as soundproofing products

Fiberglass Isolation Hangers
Fiberglass Isolation hangers are used for isolating noises of high frequency produced by equipment, ductwork, and piping which are suspended. The hangers have a molded, inorganic, and coded isolation pad made of fiberglass fixed to a load transfer plate made of steel and to a hanger bracket either welded or stamped. The isolation hangers will permit a misalignment of the support rod to the extent of 30° arc. The fiberglass pads are made from extremely small diameters, fused, annealed, and stabilized glass fibers which are tested with heavy overloading during manufacture, subsequently coated with a layer of flexible moisture-resistant elastic membrane. Fiberglass has a unique feature in the sense that its natural frequency is constant over a wide range of operating load, and also its stiffness increases in proportion to the load. Ideal isolation hangers made of fiberglass are available having capacities ranging from 250 to 900 lbs. (113 to 408 kg) in appropriate sizes having deflection of 0.18 to 0.27″ (5 to 7 mm). Fiber glass isolation hangers are suitable for situations where vibration is produced by suspended electrical or mechanical equipment, exhaust fans, piping, ductwork etc.
Application
Fiberglass isolation hangers can be used for isolating any source of vibration of frequency of audible range, or noises which are suspended and located close to an area that need to be quiet. A typical instance of the use of the hangers for isolation of noise is the ductwork and piping systems in the construction of a building. Spring loaded fiberglass hangers are used for control of low frequency noise from sources such as overflying aircraft. Isolation hangers are ideal for ceiling systems where sound transmission loss is high.
Specification
Vibration isolators requiring maximum static deflection of not more than 0.27″(7 mm.) under working load conditions will have hangers comprising of molded fiber glass inserts which are pre-loaded and the load transfer plate fitted in a welded or stamped bracket made of steel.
The fiberglass insert is coated separately with moisture-resistant elastic, flexible layer. The insert shall be molded from glass fibers with fiber diameters not exceeding .00027″ (6.8 microns) and with a modulus of elasticity of 10.5 million PSI (738,223 kg/cm2).
The fiberglass vibration isolators shall have a constant natural frequency for the working load range of the equipment that is being supported. Vibration isolators shall have a code showing its load capacity.
The hanger bracket should be capable of taking an overload of 500% safety margin and also permit misalignment of supporting rod to an extent of 30 degrees angle but at the same time not allowing contacts between metals or electrical short circuits.
Conclusion
Isolation hangers are ideal for controlling noise and vibration being transmitted into a structure from suspended equipment, ductwork, and piping. Fiberglass isolation hangers shall conform to the deflection requirements as per the Vibration Isolation Schedule or as mentioned in the project documents for every application specified.
