Totem Shelf I’m a big fan of totem shelves. Score the shims lightly with a saw, then break them off where they come out of the grooves. 6. Now you’re going to work on putting the whole thing together. Stand the post against the wall as close as possible; mark its top.
Mount the angle bracket on the wall, ideally where there is a stud. (If there isn’t, use drywall anchors.) Next, put the post in place under the top of the bracket and attach it with screws. If your floor is at all uneven, use a cedar shim to tighten the gap between the floor and the post. This side is attached to the top of the post Stand the post in place, mark the location of the top on the wall. Install the angle bracket at that marl. Stand the post in place and attach n from the top with screws. (Make sure it’s plumb or level both ways) This side is attached to the wall by screwing directly to a stud. or using good drywall anchors.
