Home Makeover Interior designing and decoration tips

If you don’t have a foyer and your front door opens up right into your living room, you probably won’t be able to create a telling little design “sampler,” but at the very least make sure that your entry is welcoming. Single out the first thing someone sees as she walks through the door and make it attractive. If it’s the wall behind the couch, hangs a striking piece of art; if it’s a hall closet (unfortunately, some doors do open right in front of a hall closet), make sure the door to the closet is made of a beautiful type of wood or painted a striking color. If the front door opens right in front of the stairs, put a great runner on the steps or install an interesting banister. Most important of all, be certain that your guests don’t have to circumnavigate the back of a couch or chair to get into the room. Any obstacle to entering the house is unwelcoming.
So, tempting as it is (especially if you have a small house or are a lover of furniture design, like me) to cram as many pieces of furniture into your home as possible, use restraint. Instead, keep the area inviting by keeping it open. I’ve been in a few entertainment rooms that make you feel like you’re on the lido deck of-a cruise ship at four in the morning, listening to the ship’s band play the same song for the tenth time. In other words, I’ve been in entertainment rooms that are not very entertaining. They make you feel as though you’ve walked into a bad rerun- or worse, a TV pilot that was so lousy it never aired.
In my opinion the room itself and not just what you watch or listen to inside of it should make you smile, laugh, have a good time. Old TV Guides that might have otherwise ended up in the recycling bin were bolted onto plywood to make these chairs. Up close this “wallpaper” looks like TV Guide covers with no rhyme or reason to their arrangement. Step back and you can see their geometric pattern.
