While there’s nothing wrong with furnishing an entertainment room with lots of cushy couches and Barco loungers, you can also go with lots of different chairs and floor pillows. Instead of a sofa in front of the TV, there’s a semicircle of bright saucer chairs, and rather than a classic card table, there are groupings of TV Guide furniture. The room is also stocked with stacks of soft, fluffy floor pillows for the kids who can’t walk to lie on and, underneath it all, a shaggy rug-the kind that makes you want to take your shoes off and walk barefoot. Most entertainment rooms, especially those that are also used as game rooms and kids’ playrooms, need plenty of storage, and Camp Barnabas’s entertainment room was no exception.
The storage piece I created for them is oversize, but so is the room. Anything smaller might look lost and lonely on the wall and, besides, this piece is eminently practical: Monopoly sets, checkerboards, DVDs, CDs, and all the other stuff that tends to clutter up entertainment rooms stays well hidden behind doors and within the baskets up top.
